Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Tonya attended Robert E Lamberton high school and then Temple University. Her first experience with organized dance instructions came as she attended an African Dance classs in 1994.
Tonya began line dance lessons with Ray Boyd of Tri State Elite in Delaware in early 2003. Shortly thereafter, she began dancing with Ray Boyd's Tri Stae Elite performance team. Like most people that get into line dancing, she had become addicted! At least twice a week, she would attend classes and make frequent visits on 1st and 3rd Saturdays to the “Stardust Ballroom.” where she met Kenny J, Lynda, Kim and Connie. Tonya was inspired and encouraged by Kenny J and Lynda to audition for the “Dave Bush Performers” in November 2003. Tonya claims this to be probably the most terrifying experience of her life, as she felt she had to show that she had what it takes to dance center stage with Ray Boyd and Kenny J. It was just a matter of weeks before her first performance; well look at her now! Performing has practically become second nature to her.
Tonya joined the IAKJP family in 2005. She is vice president of financial operations. In this capacity, she is responsible for all financial dealings of IAKJP. She maintains the financial records of the organization and approves expenditures. Tonya is also responsible for ensuring that IAKJP gives back to the community via monetary donations.
